The initiative, led by Jenny Moore, seeks to overcome previous setbacks and cost issues that have hindered the project’s progress. Originally proposed in the shire’s 2015 masterplan, the endeavor was delayed due to unforeseen challenges, including the impact of the pandemic.

Moore, chairperson of the Merricks/Red Hill Station Ground Equestrian Reserve Inc, emphasizes the necessity of the roof to enhance the facility’s offerings, dispelling the misconception that equestrianism is an elitist pursuit. The project, estimated at $1.2 million by the club, has already secured a substantial portion of the required funds through community contributions but requires further assistance to reach the target amount.

The covered arena is envisioned to provide a secure and weather-resistant space for equestrian activities, benefiting various local clubs and individual riders who utilize the Merricks facilities. With multiple sand arenas, turf areas, and specialized training grounds, the site serves as a vital hub for equestrian enthusiasts across different disciplines.
