Equestrian enthusiasts at Trinity College in Adelaide have a wealth of opportunities awaiting them in the school’s comprehensive sports program. The Trinity College Equestrian Centre, situated at 142 Bentley Road Evanston South, serves as a hub for students interested in honing their horsemanship skills.
Under the guidance of Helen Barnes, the Equestrian Program Coordinator and Coach, students from Year 10 to Year 12 can engage in private lessons with College horses. Helen, an Equestrian Australia Level 1 Dressage Coach, offers training in Riding and Horse Management modules recognized by EA. These modules not only contribute towards SACE points but also pave the way for students aspiring to pursue equestrian careers or veterinary science.
Moreover, the Equestrian Centre hosts informative sessions by industry experts such as horse dentists, farriers, and acupuncturists, providing students with a holistic understanding of horse care and management.
For younger enthusiasts, Trinity College offers the Horsemanship Program, designed for students as young as eight years old. This certificate-based program covers various aspects of horse care, riding, and harness driving in eight-week blocks during weekday afternoons throughout the term.
Each year, Trinity College organizes the Interschool Gymkhana, a highlight for equestrian enthusiasts. The event includes a range of competitions like Show Jumping, Topsy, Novelties, and more. Students owning horses are encouraged to participate, while those without horses can ride College horses, fostering a sense of camaraderie and competition among participants.
Students who excel in the Horsemanship Program are invited to volunteer at the Equestrian Centre, where they assist young riders in learning various aspects of horse care and riding. These volunteering opportunities not only contribute to the students’ personal growth but also make them eligible for prestigious College awards and recognition.
Trinity College’s commitment to equestrian excellence is evident in its Hall of Fame, which honors outstanding individuals who have achieved significant milestones in the field. Notable inductees like Greg Sugars and Jamie Kah, both former students, have made their mark in national and international equestrian competitions.
With a strong emphasis on skill development, competition, and community engagement, Trinity College’s Equestrian Program offers a unique platform for students to explore their passion for horses and equestrian sports.
